Traffic Accident Risk Assessment Framework for Qassim, Saudi Arabia: Evaluating the Impact of Speed Cameras

Saudi Arabia is one of the countries with highest number road accidents and associated fatalities in world. Speeding has been identified as an important cause increased traffic accidents, which also aggravate their severity. Road safety improvement strategies are primarily based on accurate identification accident hotspots. Installing speed cameras at a network level expensive measure, its spatiotemporal effectiveness should be assessed. In this study, risk assessment framework developed implemented 84 km long Buraydah Ring Qassim region Arabia. The selected highway was divided into 42 (×2 long) segments using ArcGIS software. A scoring scheme to incorporate both frequency severity accidents. Speed installation various showed 70% decline total counts, 53% property damage, 84% causing injury, complete absence fatalities. 48% were hotspots ≥ medium, while completely eliminated from study area. proposed can major high-speed highways, accommodating high volumes, for hotspot evaluation measures elsewhere.
